Horrible. Any pranks are awful but pranking helpless creatures, little kids etc is really nasty.

I 100% agree. I could totally have made this secret. I refuse to watch those videos. It is awful and mean. Pranking humans who don't want to be pranked is bad enough. But pranking animals who have no idea what is going on and who you have a responsibility to care for and are choosing to scare instead is just cruel and awful.

Prank videos are low effort, unfunny bullshit.

Just in case anyone thinks the cucumber thing is harmless, cats parse them as a snake which has just snuck up on them, so they are having an adrenaline spike as their fear and flight reflexes kick in. It is horrible.

This. It is horrible and awful and cruel. I hate those videos so much. And any videos that involve people laughing and filming while animals are scared or miserable instead of helping the animal.

Oh, I didn't know that. :( I always thought it was like my friend's dog, who is sweet but dumb as a brick and scares herself with random things all the time.

They're not funny. My cat is likely on her last legs and it breaks my heart to even turn on the vacuum now because she's so afraid of it.

This. My cat is terrified of lawn mowers, and it breaks my heart every time one is being used around us because I know she's so scared. And I hate bringing her to the vet, although I still do it, because of how miserable she finds the carrier. I want to protect her from everything. I hate it when she's miserable.

I'm with you 100% OP. Also, there's this movie of a little kitten having a seizure in her water or food bowl that's making the rounds and people are laughing in the comments and it's breaking my heart.

Multiple vets have weighed in on that video to point out that the kitten isn't having a seizure. It's just very young and hasn't figured out eating from a bowl yet. It's still not particularly nice to laugh at a baby who is clearly frustrated with trying to figure out the whole weaning thing.

As someone who hasn't had a pet since I was 10 and is kinda scared of dogs and actually has ailurophobia... 100% AGREED.

There's a reason kids torturing animals is shown in movies/tv so much as a sign of the person growing up to be a psychopath, it's based in reality. But for some reason adults doing it for fun to their own pets is funny and acceptable just because they're not visibly physically harming the animal? NOPE.

on the note of tv shows portraying that as a trait of being a psychopath (because it is one) i remember a show called the unusuals treating the fact that one of the people they were perusing was stalking and murdering people's pet cats as a big joke, which always bothered me because is that not one of the first traits of someone being a psychopath? is that not step one to becoming a serial killer??? MAKE IT MAKE SENSE.

You're so right :( I watch a lot of compilations on youtube (mostly old vines and tiktoks tbh) and I always get wary of the animal specific ones because so often it goes from really cute videos to straight up animal abuse being played like its funny.

I see we're getting lax on what counts as a "fandom" secret.

Pet videos have a fandom, prank shows have a fandom, what is the problem?

And here I was thinking this was going to be a secret about dicks lol

I'm not a big fan of prank videos, esp. ones where the person/child/animal is clearly distressed and it's played for laughs. I think maybe I used to find it funny to some degree -- and some I still do, but really stressing an animal or person out is gonna be a no :(

Off topic, but I hate crying cat meme so much. There are obviously sick animals who are used for fun picture of "crying". Animals are not actively being hurt but I still find it tasteless
