People who work from home

(Anonymous) 2021-12-13 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
I'm interested in working from home but I have no idea how to go about it or where to start. If you're someone who works from home, I'm curious to know how/where you found the job, what you actually do, what line of work is it and how do you get paid?

I see a lot of postings for remote jobs online but I'm paranoid that they're scams or that I would be signing up to be a telemarketer, which I don't want. If anyone has any input or advice, I'd appreciate it!

I work from home, but I don't know how useful I'll be for you. We transitioned as a company b/c of covid and decided about half way through 2020 that we would make coming into the office voluntary. My team has been cleared to WFH 100% of the time, and when we had an opening in late 2020 we hired someone two states away. I work in finance, so I just need a computer (provided by the company) and an internet connection (provided by me). I get paid via EFT.

Mmm. The people who i know wfh usually do have to pop into the workplace at least once a week. They're in IT/tech or logistics. I'm not sure which sites you have available, but indeed, LinkedIn, and if you have any kind of network (like you were in a training program, college, local community bulletins (at churches/houses of worship, community centers, assembly person's office) ) might be good to feel out through them. The tech/IT jobs were found through recruiters/through tech boot camp network.

back in the day Rat Race Rebellion used to be good for finding telework, but I went back there now, and it kinda sucks now. btw, be careful because call center work can suck so hard, especially if it deals with anything billing. Customers are vicious monsters over the phone, I very much do not recommend it for anything long term.

I know there are a lot of medical coding and billing jobs that are remote, but you have to have some specific education for them.
