Open discussion is fine, but... are you being tactful? Are you just bombarding your friend with negative criticisms or do you have anything positive to say about the thing they shared with you? 'Cause if all a friend wanted to discuss was all the things they found wrong with a show, I would get the impression that they did not enjoy it.

"It was to spread their show" - well yes, in a way? They found something that resonated with them, and it's entirely possible they were hoping it would resonate with you. Not everything has to be transactional. But of course, it's fair to not want to discuss things if they are also trying to limit the conversation.

I quoted the type of stuff I say. When watching recs and discussing them with people who like the kind of meta I quoted above, and would like to imagine how their favorites could have been different or better or AU or what ifs - things go swimmingly! When people just want me to like what they like, they don't.

Like OP, if they don't like the reactions to their recs they can simply stop reccing. Just like I can simply stop watching, which I do when it's people who just want me to smile and hit the like button.
