uhhhhh not that either thing is good, but there's a huge glaring difference between those two you're missing here w/r/t doing things to yourself vs doing things to other people without their consent

They're both huge fandoms that lend themselves to cries of 'childhood ruined', so I can see that.

I think as a whole SW is slightly worse, even though it's easier to find a little (mostly sane) niche in. Like, for me it wasn't that difficult to find a dozen or two people who like the same things and who aren't jerks. For the MCU though... I tried, but I had to settle for blogs with pretty pics.

Nobody forced her to, she could have passed on the project freely. Hell, she could have done the movie and not dropped that weight (there's a new thing, called "acting"; I hope it catches on). At the end of the day, she chose to do it to herself. The douchebag chose to torture his castmates and not himself, they had no say in his decision not to try that new fangled acting lark.

You want actresses to not drop a tonne of weight for roles, don't go and see their movies if they do. It is their choice if they want to, though.

That's it. That's the difference. It's a pretty big one. I'm honestly rather concerned that you don't see why these two things are so different.

My theory is: I like romance. It's good and I enjoying reading it. But - and I think this is probably basically the case for most people - the kinds of romance that I like, that appeal to me, are hyper-specific. There are a lot of things that fundamentally don't work for me. And not just in the sense of big, splashy, romance-genre categories or tropes, but hyper-specific in terms of feeling and vibe and character and dialogue.

So finding a romance in the romance genre that works for me is extremely difficult, because all books appear alike and it's almost impossible to tell whether a book will work for me or not without reading it. But if a writer is telling a story - whether it's smut or comedy or action - that I already like and whose aesthetic I appreciate, the chances are a lot higher that I will also enjoy their interpretation of romance.
