I’m gonna admit this straight-up, most of my taste in HP fic these days is only loosely inspired by canon, so I’ll forgive most of this. If you boil them down, almost all HP ships are at least some degree of dysfunctional, possibly because Hogwarts has been the centre of at least two wars within the last two generations, and due to wizarding aging, Grindlewald and the world wars were the generation before that. Not to mention all the wizarding world’s lovely societal peccadillos on top of that. The characters are basically all fucked up, regardless of age, and they’re all on at least their first and possibly up to third war. So I’m perfectly fine with fanfic that just … smooths off the edges. Most of the HP fic I read takes the basic premise of the characters, some of the broad strokes from canon, and then just picks their favourite fandom plot and goes with it.

Remus/Sirius isn’t actually one of my ships, but I feel like this is just a general trend in HP fanfic. If you think about that universe for any length of time it just gets depressing. I’m probably not the only one who prefers fic that sort of takes the character’s opening premise and then tries to go a happier direction with it.

(I’ll agree though, pretty much everything Sirius did in school was fucked up. But, again … Hogwarts is just like that. Hogwarts rivalries seem to regularly result in people being disfigured, expelled, imprisoned, at risk of death, and so on. See also: Harry vs Draco, Hermione vs Marietta, everything Tom Riddle did in school, the Marauders vs Snape, etc. It’s so tempting to blame Dumbledore, but the wars and the wizarding world being fairly shit to start with are probably also factors)

yeah i generally wouldn't care if people were proud of their fanonization. but that's not what's happening with wolfstar fics. it's mostly people who are proud of how "right" and "in character" they got them.
