what kind of ambient? that is, there's a huge difference between slow droning synth ambient and new-agey ambient that involves actual pianos and flutes.

I used to be really into David Arkenstone-adjacent new agey shit in the 90s, which was considered in some circles to be ambient, but on the flip side the pure synth ambients considered that blasphemy and only 100% electronic music with no beat at all would be "real" ambient. so if you want one I have recs and if you want the other I'm sorry and I wish you well.

Having read your descriptions, I think I'm maybe using the wrong words? At the moment i'm listening to things like medieval market places, fires crackling with background rain, thunderstorms with wind chimes.

MyNoise.net (“https://myNoise.net”) has loads of ambient noises and you can change and/or mix them as much as you want!

I love that they have so much choice!
