I agree with what everyone else has said in response to you, so I'm just going to add one more potential distinction. First, I identify as bi because "pan" wasn't an option for me when I realized I wasn't straight. It was the late 90s, I was a kid, and resources for learning about all the different queer labels were much scarcer. I wouldn't hear the word "pansexual" until years later. So that's one reason some people do it. My second reason, and my reason for not switching to pan, is that I really am only attracted to the two binary genders. Cis or trans doesn't matter, but you gotta be male or female in some way. This has gotten me called nbphobic (not often luckily), which is fucking stupid; that's like calling a straight woman homophobic or misogynist for not being attracted to other women. I fully support nonbinary people, I've just never been attracted to any of them and saying I am would be disingenuous.
