Hey, people with piercings

Inb4 "consult your piercer" (which I will)

So, I got my cartilage pierced last spring, was not the best in looking after it -- essentially it came out and I have a bit of keloid that's healing/gone down since it came out.

Now. I don't know if I'm being fully foolish/stupid, but I want to get pierced again (not the same ear), AND this time I'm gonna go for the double helix. I've learned my lesson (a part of me is asking really? And you're going to do this again? Fool.). In your experience, what's some of your best care practices and would you do what I'm doing or just take the failed first piercing as a sign to walk away?

I.e. this time, I'm getting something close to an undercut because last time my hair kept getting ALL up in it!

I've never gotten a keloid but from what I know about them, I think it's a lot of your genetics. I have heard that some piercers are gentler. Like, there's less trauma to the tissue initially and that can help prevent them. And then, treating the piercing gently as it heals can lower the chance of them forming. But I would be very cautious if you've already gotten one.

Do you have your lobes or elsewhere pierced? If you do and none of the others formed keloids then try again with different aftercare or a more experienced piercer? If that's your only piercing and you got a keloid right away, you may want to avoid it.

Thanks!

I've gotten my lobes pierced (more than once) and the keloid appeared only on the helix. I'll admit I was very rough in regards to maintenance (hair getting caught, things essentially banging into that ear, sometimes even falling asleep on that side when I wrongly assumed it had healed enough...). So maybe gentle aftercare will help...thanks!

I'd say go for it, but check in regularly with the piercer and look for keloids forming.
i developed one with my industrial and it vanished within a few weeks (2? 3? idk) of TLC.

Thank you! Will do! I was just afraid to check in with my piercer (didn't want to be annoying).

What was your TLC routine/actions, if you don't mind me asking?
