I think that before S&TC there weren't many or any shows about women over 30 having blaitant discussions about their sex lives, fictional or not.

This. I have no interest in the show. But it was groundbreaking for its time and important in that regard. I don't think bringing it back was a great idea because there have been many shows since that do the same thing, but better. But the original show was important for showing that women enjoy sex too and that it was okay and that they were allowed to talk about it with each other.

Yeah, this.

I actually own the whole show on DVD and acknowledge it is pure garbage. But that's specifically why it's my trash show.

This exactly. Women talking about sex, enjoying sex, not being ASHAMED of sex, having one night stands, dating around, being 'slutty' and owning it...it was all pretty huge at the time.

Plus - pure escapism. I'm a writer who does two columns a week for the newspaper and I live in this fabulous New York apt. and can buy 400 dollar shoes!! Every week!

Yeah, right.

the real escapism regarding Carrie was her having a really obnoxious personality and not being great looking but still always able to get men

I will agree with the “obnoxious personality” part, but I very much disagree with “not great looking”.

Yeah, pretty much. At the time, older women - and women over 30 were very much considered older women when it came to tv and movies - were generally treated as either sexless or pitiable. They could be mommies, spinsters, or pathetically desperate, and that was about it.
