Team Vin Forever

(Anonymous) 2022-01-11 09:42 am (UTC)(link)
Why? Why is anyone Team anyone on this matter?

(Anonymous) 2022-01-11 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
First of all, I like Vin Diesel as an actor, and I strongly dislike the Rock both as an actor and a celebrity in general. So that's from the start. And I like the Fast & Furious franchise.

Second, I think that the Rock really did come into an existing successful franchise and try to take it over and make it his thing, and I think the franchise is something that Vin justifiably considers his baby, and a deeply personal thing. Does Vin take the series too seriously, yes, absolutely, but that's also part and parcel of the whole vibe of the franchise and one of the reasons for its success. So I think that the Rock was in the wrong originally. I think it is basically magnanimous for Vin to try to squash the beef and heal the wounds, even if he maybe didn't pick the best way of doing it.

Third, I think a lot of people are being absolutely ridiculous about this. Saying that Vin Diesel is (in effect) an abusive father because of this is just absolutely ridiculous. That's over-the-top. So I'm opposed to that kind of ridiculous sentiment.

Okay.

Yikes, that tweet.

The compliments feel like insult to injury when they're the foot-thick icing on top of condescending and manipulative bullshit.

I don't know much about Vin Diesel, but this tweet is giving me a very bad impression of him.

(Anonymous) 2022-01-11 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Same. I've watched zero fast and furious movies but that tweet is a bit much.

(Anonymous) 2022-01-10 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Is the post in the screenshot the behavior that you don't like OP? I'm out of the loop in regards to how Vin Diesel has been doing lately.

(Anonymous) 2022-01-11 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
OP here- thank you, Secret Maker!!

Yes, this post is case-in-point for the behavior I'm not into lately. I generally like Vin and the Rock, both, but the drama has been disappointing and I didn't appreciate how Vin has handled it, publicly. (Will I watch the next FF movie regardless of who's in it? Yes.)

Knowing the context (that Rock The Dwayne Johnson privately told him, firmly, he had no interest in doing another FF movie) that tweet is so manipulative. Vin Diesel is an asshole.

(Anonymous) 2022-01-11 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
Sincerely, thank you for the context! Some of that post seemed off to me, but I've also seen friendly ribbing exchanges framed as though the creators were threatening each other, so I wasn't sure how serious this might be.

It's really cult-like for him to keep saying that the FF franchise is a family. He places himself in the father role and it's been really uncomfortable to watch as a casual movie fandom person and as someone from an abusive household where my parents would always use the "we're you're family" line to excuse their abuse and to try to keep me from moving on with my life and find an identity of my own. It was always "think of the family".

(Anonymous) 2022-01-11 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
That tweet feels really manipulative and super awkward, especially the "rise to the occasion and fulfill your destiny" part. It's an action movie franchise, bud, maybe find some chill?

(Anonymous) 2022-01-12 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
The whole thing is ridiculous to me. I love Vin Diesel & I love Dwayne Johnson. I would have loved for them to do more movies together, but I get why The Rock doesn't want to have anything more to do with Vin after his nonsense. Vin is taking himself & his stupid franchise (I love the franchise & him, btw) way too seriously.
