Audiobooks

I've only recently been getting into audiobooks.

What are some of your favorites? Which ones do you think have the best reader? Are there books you like better in audiobook form than regular book form? What sorts of genres or types of books do you tend to gravitate towards in audio form?

There was an audiobook version of a Christmas Carol with Patrick Stewart that I liked very much.

Michael Jayston reads several of the John le Carré spy novels and I love the way he read so much that I’ve even been considering listing to other random books just because he reads them.

I also really like Kobna Holdbrook-Smith reading the Rivers of London series.

If you’re open to children’s books, my absolute favorite is probably Salman Rushdie reading Haroun and the Sea of Stories. Followed by Christopher Plummer reading Alice in Wonderland.

I'm totally open to children's stories. Actually, some of the first audiobooks I listened to were A Little Princess and A Wrinkle in Time.

Those sound awesome. Especially Plumber reading anything.

I'm a huge fan of author read audiobooks regardless of genre. I have especially enjoyed Neil Gaiman's readings of his books.

I mostly listen to historical/regency romance novels. My favorite author is Grace Callaway because her novels are spicy erotica with high drama and I like the plots as well as likable leads, both Heroine and Hero. A lot of romances have the Heroes that are asshats until the last second.

I went through a mystery thriller/true crime phase a couple years ago and I found listening to audiobooks of these while doing chores a good way to pass time. I really got into Gillian Flynn novels!
But what I mostly took away from it is that I really like Richard M. Davidson's voice. He does readings for a lot of nonfiction books. The first book with his narration I listened to was "Mindhunter" by John E. Douglas and Mark Olshaker. Currently listening to "Like Judgment Day" by Michael D'Orso with his narration.

I recently listened to Maggie Gyllenhaal narrate "The Bell Jar" by Sylvia Plath, and I found her performance engaging.

I listen to a lot of non-fiction books during my workday. Currently I'm listening to End Times by Bryan Walsh, about existential risk (written before covid, but boy did he call the crime and supply chain issues). Mostly I listen to science, history, or true crime.

Romance Books (Narrators I enjoy)
-Carmen Rose (she narrated a lot of the Tessa Dare books which are tropey fun imo and I out on when I just want to relax/enjoy something without thinking too much)
-Shane East (I just love his voice and he really gets into all the characters!)
- Carly Robins
- Robin Miles (who also narrated Just As I Am, Cicely Tyson's autobiography ,part of it, but she has some good non fiction out there too)

Non-Fiction
-Prentice Onayemi (this man has the most beautiful voice; first heard him narrating Ghetto, by Michael Duneier)
- Xe Sands (her voice is so pleasant and calming. Fiction: The Transcriptionist; non fiction: Slime, by)

I've got quite a few recs bookwise, so what's your poison?
