The Final Fantasy house still astounds me. Just.... what.

Final Fantasy fictionkin cult, I think? Possibly involving a murder although I may have my fictionkin cults mixed up.

The one lady who tried to sue other authors writing het A/B/O dynamics because she claimed she invented it. And then tried to sue Lindsay Ellis (and others?) for talking about it. Yeah. Very stupid, but entertaining.

I just keep imagining what that must've been like for the lawyers who had to deal with all of that.

Does this place count? Because I will forever love the Soap Dish incident and the Masked Husky fiasco.

Of the stuff I've actually witnessed, TJLC was definitely the funniest. I mean, there were parts of it that were genuinely quite terrible, but that Apple Tree Yard secret fourth episode thing was HILARIOUS to watch in real time.

Star Citizen was funny to follow at first, but it's eventually just become kind of sad. That period from 2014-2016-ish where the ships people were buying for a nonexistent game just got more and more expensive and outlandish was prime drama fodder tho.

The Msscribe Story is still an absolute classic: https://charlottelennox.livejournal.com/887.html

The MsScribe saga is a banger. I love it especially looking back because it was such pure drama.

I'm not even in the "Sherlock" fandom and I remember hearing about that whole "secret fourth episode" thing. That was wild. The posts with all the lengthy theories and analysis about why there HAD to be a secret episode were just...wow.

I was in the Sherlock fandom, I am a Johnlock shipper, and the TJLC people were one of the most horrifyingly wanky and abusive and hateful fandom factions I've ever seen in my life. They chased away so many great artists and writers just because they dared to question their bullshit "meta" that was just endless rambly screeds full of confirmation bias garbage.

I ship Johnlock with all my heart, and I am still SO glad that TJLC was proved wrong.

(It wasn't even a bad ending for Johnlock shippers. They're still alive, they're solving crimes and raising a baby together. This is a happy ending!)

WAIT! Changing my answer.

The Destiel love confession in SPN has to be my all-time favorite and all subsequent shenanigans. Watching everyone melt down over the finale in real time was a delight.

Yeah, I don't know if it's just because it happened recently but that's my pick too. Tumblr was so fucking funny the night/weekend after the confession.

I love how that finale is tied to the dragged out insanity of the 2020 election results, so now the two things are inextricably linked.

The Cassandra Clair Plagiarism Scandal and the Msscribe story hit that dopamine button like my hugging my childhood stuffed animals. Snape Wives are a delightful flock of WTFery. The FF7 house is the kind of irl horror story I can't look away from. Game of Thrones absolutely fouling the bed was the sweetest schadenfreude I've felt up to 2019. The ongoing Cluster Wuck of SPN and so on has been a delight.

It's not a ton really, fandom drama isn't as much fun anymore because when it gets too big and gets picked up by non-fandom people it just feels like bullying with extra steps.

Laptopgate with Cassandra Clare. Actually, anything re Cassandra Clare.

And LJ's strikethrough. I was there for that.

Mine is prob an obscure one from aaaaaages ago.

There was a fan in a band fandom I always found super annoying and attention seeking. Like, some minor inconvenience happened to her outside a gig and she cried at one of the band members's wives and scored VIP passes. That's what she was like.

Anyway, turns out she managed to guess the frontman's email password or secret question that let her in (she was unhealthily obsessed with him) and was reading his emails for MONTHS. Sharing unreleased info and tracks with a bunch of people who I also think were assholes for not ratting her out sooner. When someone finally grew a spine and outed her, seeing the entire fandom turn on her so blood thirstily for actual years was immensely satisfying. She was outcasted. Anyone who remembers it would snub her if they came across her at a gig. Any time she commented anywhere online, it caused drama all over again because apart from her few remaining lackeys, nobody else would forgive her.

But despite it being my favourite kind of schadenfreude, I still wish it hadn't happened because years later the frontman referenced a "stalker fan" in an interview and it's clear it really messed him up. I mean, it would wouldn't it?

Oh, god. I'm glad that she finally got called out for her bullshit and paid the price for it, but man, I feel bad for the musician who had to put up with all of that.

Of all time is a really personal one. It was a super, super small forum I frequented and it was for a celebrity with mostly teen/YA girls/women fans so the forum was basically high school hallways 24/7. In the grand scheme of things, nothing like Msscribe levels of "WTF" happened, but the pettiness of the forum members is hilarious in hindsight. Someone who spent 2+ years working on becoming a BNF was discovered to have used a fake picture and the owner of the picture found out and was disturbed at having her identity stolen on a small fan forum. It spiraled into that BNF having to apologize to other BNFs she talked a bunch of shit about/to over other petty drama and then she and her cronies had to apologize for using fake pictures and lying that they were part time models (which I think most people didn't buy to begin with).
The icing on the cake was that the person who did all the detective work in finding out that the BNF was a catfish was a catfish themselves. I didn't find out about that part until the forum was dead. The person who did the detective work was always creating sock puppets to DM people and inquire about their private lives. I think they went on a crusade against the BNF mostly because that BNF slighted the detective and their friend years before. When the detective smelt something fishy about the BNF's story the detective went to work and really rubbed salt in the BNF's face when they contacted the person the BNF stole the picture from.

That whole thing with the person investigating the BNF being revealed as a catfish themselves...that's some "Twilight Zone" twist shit there, that is. Wow.

Permapanties. I've never seen a broken fandom unite themselves against something they hated as quickly as everyone did then.

Probably dashcon. I know I should feel bad for all the people who spent a lot of money to go to it and got utterly ripped off, and I actually DO feel bad for those people. But also, I'm sorry, it was a truly delicious trainwreck to watch go down. An extra hour in the ball-pit!!!

The Castiel love confession is another favorite of mine, though in that case I think it's as much about everything else that was going on concurrently, and how Destiel becoming semi-canon (after TWELVE. YEARS.) in the midst of all this other chaos made it feel incredibly surreal and absurd. I don't even ship Destiel and I still spent the whole next day feeling like, "Is this real life??" It was the straw that broke the camels back, more than anything.

TJLC was...a lot. Johnlock was my OTP at the time, though, so I couldn't really enjoy the insanity of TJLC. The crazy was too close to home on that one.

I wasn't aware of most of the infamous big dramas like MsScribe, and the guy whose wife was a horse, but if I had been they'd probably be on the list.
