I think part of what Lana did was deliberately prevent Warners from being able to make more Matrix movies by poisoning the franchise's well. They'll never escape this move, no matter what sort of reboot they think about trying. It really pissed her off when they said they were going to make this movie with or without her. Good luck with that next time, WB.

I haven't seen this. How does it poison the Well?

(Spoilers, obviously)

Well, it directly calls out Warner Bros, for forcing a fourth movie, by having Neo stuck in the Matrix forced to make a fourth Matrix "video game" by Warner Bros, followed by a scene where devs go through market analysis and harp on how it has to be fresh and unique while trying to decide what to do with the 4th one and suggest they might even make more. Neo and Trinity are quite literally forcibly and painfully resurrected to keep a new version of the Matrix running. After a fight scene a character yells about how their "sequel franchise spinoff" isn't over yet.

In the end Neo and Trinity fly off into the sunset to paint the sky with rainbows.

Mind you I loved the movie so much I saw it multiple times in theatres, because the very autobiographical nature touched me deeply. Like yes the callouts are fun, but as "Neo" talks about his fears that his sacrifice did not mean anything, did not change anything and "Bugs" reassures him that for people like her, it changed so much, my trans ass always tears up.

NAYRT
I just want to say thank you for this comment. Because I love this movie. It's ridiculous and all over the place and I love it.

Yesss thank you!!

Did these movies age well? I never got around to watching them.

(Anonymous) 2022-01-18 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
They're Wachowski movies. If you like the Wachowskis, you'll find them fascinating. If you don't like the Wachowskis, you'll find them weird and offputting. Most people find Wachowski movies weird and offputting. They're cult filmmakers. The first one happens to be one of the best action movies ever made in addition to being a Wachowski movie, so a lot of people like it for that.

I haven't seen any of their stuff so no idea if I'd like it.

I do like action movies though, so might be worth a watch.

The first Matrix movie was really interesting and pretty damn good. The rest were...eh. This newest one was...okay? Didn't really see the need for it, frankly - enough already with this franchise, it's done.

No. You probably get the memes anyway and there's not much else to them.

(Anonymous) 2022-01-18 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed. It was one big yawn and so fucking long! Like WHY? Nothing happened, essentially, just churning self-references on repeat. Like masturbating for three hours when you're dry and not horny at all: painfully dull.
