you can still have rules on e.g. missing events that will weed out habitually forgetful members from events (like a time out on RSVPing) until they come up with a system to help them remember or accept participating in the group without that part of it, for example. boundaries can also encompass non-malicious or accidentally triggering behavior.

granted, this requires a mod team that has the capacity to let people be upset at them, and it requires members to be able to self soothe when they're upset/not take boundaries personally, and the latter in particular will naturally filter out a portion of people.

I don't blame OP for leaving, though, since it sounds like a poorly moderated group and a real stressful time.

I think sometimes there is extra frustration for that sort of boundary being perceived as "not inclusive" of those who have trouble with regular/timely attendance. It's a tightrope sometimes.
