10. POSER JAPANESE AHOY. Seriously, if you want to feel somehow feel superior by impressing and confusing people with your wannabe-Nihongo skills, at least use the basic kanji for "watashi" and "daisuki" and maybe put "fandom" in katakana, or else you just make yourself look stupid to people who know more than you but are mature enough to use it discreetly. Ugh.

English words are traditionally written in English, though English words integrated into the Japanese language are written in katakana. 'Fandom', as far as I know, is not one of those.

Not true, I don't think. After all, if that were true, we wouldn't get katakana for all those characters with made-up English names in Japanese games and anime. However, I'll be the first to admit my Japanese is rusty, so. :(

I think that only goes for names, though, because they're being used in the context of the language itself.

But I could totally be wrong 8D I'm probably just as rusty.

they're spotty in the use of Roman letters. Just look at Japanese magazines and websites. Every once in a while you'll see "LOVE" and every once in a while you'll see "ラブ" ...
they'll put the katakana in to make it easier to read.

I don't think it matters that much. You guys are both right. ♥

Watch me as a prove how much of a nerd I really am and scan the issue of "Ribon" that I had closest to me. XD;

Like the person above me said, you'll often see both Roman characters and katakana used for foreign words. Take this (http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b367/emi_no_tsubasa/loveberrish.jpg) page, for instance. A lot of times you'll actually SEE it as a combination of the two, with tiny katakana acting as furigana for the roman letters. XD; I know that was a pretty bad example, but I didn't want to have to hunt for the cover page of "出ました! Powerpuff Girls Z." So.
