*shrug* Different people have different tastes. Simple as that, really. Humor is highly subjective.

Funny is very subjective, but I agree on clever. The Good Place is the most "intellectual" in that group of show since it tackles phylosophical issues and it does in a very clever and funny way. One of my favourite shows of all the time!
I also loved Brooklyn 99, but can't stand Parks & Recs and I'm totally indifferent to the Office (US). Kind of enjoyed The Office (UK) tho.

Yep, very "phylosophical" indeed.

DAMN IT I knew I had to check the spelling. Thanks. I'm not a native speaker so this helps. I always screw up the Y because in my first language it just doesn't exist.

A bit late but sorry for being a dick.

(Anonymous) 2022-01-29 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
No problem. I personally don't mind having my mistakes corrected since for me it's an opportunity to learn. Just remember that not everyone here or on the internet as a whole is a native speaker and some people have deeep rooted inferiority complexes about their English proficiency level.

I don't know what to tell you, art is subjective. I think they're all great shows for what they are, and none of them stand out to me as a lot better or a lot less good than the others. Though obviously The Good Place benefits from one distinct thing which is that very few people feel it overstayed its welcome.

I have a lot of very positive things to say about each of these shows in turn, and it just doesn't really feel meaningful to me to weight them against each other as a merit assessment.

All those shows have one person in common, Mike Schur, given that he was one of the writers on the Office, co-show runner on Parks and Rec and B99, and show runner on the Good Place. So the comparisons aren’t just random.

AKA Cousin Mose

But for real, I think Mike Schur is a great tv comedy writer and show runner! I don't watch all 4 shows consistently, but all of them have their fair share of funny stuff and interesting characters.

You’re right! Yup that’s him, from the Schrute Beet farm.

He does a good job of creating relatable characters and setting up dynamics and relationships, beyond the funny and witty jokes.

OP

I realise in hindsight that the secret should have been 'I'm sick of people recommending Parks & Rec, the Office, and B99 when I tell them I enjoyed the Good Place, because I've seen barely one episode of the other three, and I have zero desire to watch another one. Idk why the Good Place is the exception?'

(Anonymous) 2022-01-28 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I see. Some people enjoy a fantastical comedy while others enjoy workplace sitcoms. As mentioned before, humor and genre is subjective. It just so happens that at least one writer/show runner was involved on all four shows.

I don't really find the good place as "funny" as those other shows, but I find that the satire is more thoughtful and therefore better, and I like satire more than I like jokes. But also, I think think that those are all different settings that are going to affect how "funny" they are to you.

I definitely think the good seasons of Parks and Rec (3 and 4) are better than The Good Place

But god did that show get bad after that

Of all of these shows, I've only seen episodes (3, I think), of ONE of them - and that one was The Good Place, and I loathed it.

So, you know...you do you.

(Anonymous) 2022-01-28 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
Everyone is different, blah blah. But The Good Place is the only show that I actually like in this list. I am not into sitcoms to start with, at least The Good Place is clever
