I think AO3 makes it easy to post smut in a way in which it can't be traced back to you. You can post anon, or (as others upthread have suggested) create a new account that's unaffiliated from your main social media account(s).

I started writing smut in earnest and posting them online last year and it's been really liberating and fun! I post for a small fandom and I'm not doing much to "build" an audience. I thank people who leave comments but that's about it. I let myself enjoy the Hits and Kudos I receive, even if they're not a lot.

If it's literally the idea that one day someone close to you may read your filth, that's fine! No pressure to post smut! But if you have the desire to post your works, I'd say take the leap and post them!

Can't you orphan fics on AO3 too?

Absolutely!

OP

I mentioned up thread my AO3 accounts, and maybe I'll just make a whole new email/account (unrelated to the last two accounts and my DW account, or maybe use the DW account since I've only interacted with one person?/wanted to use as a master rec list archive)...I don't know if I'd ever orphan or anon them...but it's an option!

I'm glad that writing and posting your smut has helped you feel liberated! I also want to have some fun! It's been so long since I've posted ANYTHING... I'm just afraid writing anything fanfic related might zap any regular writing (which it's been a while) feelings so...sigh. anyway! Keep posting -- honestly what you're describing is kind of what I'm looking to do, just post, thank whoever enjoyed it, and keep interaction minimal. Audience building isn't required, but it's nice to know people enjoy what you put out!
