I don't know if it's morally wrong; I would say more, in poor taste.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-05 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
This. Sure, it's fandom, you can do what you want, but come on.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-05 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
MTE. Tacky, but not immoral.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-05 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
How is it in poor taste to imagine a gay character as bi

(Anonymous) 2022-02-05 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
And likewise, everyone says it's okay to headcanon bi characters as being exclusively gay or lesbian.

Either both things are okay or neither are.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-05 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Stop misrepresenting things.

Misrepresenting? Last week right here on Fandom Secrets people defended the right to "headcanon" Korra, a canon bisexual, as a lesbian. Not only that, if you had an issue with calling her a lesbian, you were actually the exclusionist gatekeeper because lots of lesbians have dated men before so if you say dating both Mako and Asami validates the word of God that she's bi, you were implying that only gold star lesbians are real lesbians.

Re: DA

(Anonymous) 2022-02-05 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
The argument you are talking about was not primarily about whether it was appropriate to headcanon a canon bisexual as a lesbian. The argument was primarily about whether or not Korra is canonically biseuxal. Describing the argument this way is not factually correct. It's a misrepresentation of what actually happened.

And other fans seeing Korra as lesbian is a problem for you why?

(Anonymous) 2022-02-05 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
If people want to headcanon bi characters as gay, then it's only fair for other people to be able to headcanon gay characters as bi. You can't say one is allowed but the other isn't when they're fundamentally the same thing.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-05 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. It's fanfic. None of these characters are real, however much some people may identify with them. Let other fans play the way they want to, while you play the way you want to.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-05 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
No, "everyone" does not say that.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-05 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Everyone says that except for some bisexuals, who are subsequently labeled homophobes by everyone else.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-05 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe because that's how they genuinely come across to people outside their little online bubble.

MTE. This is pretty much the only corner of the internet where I've heard this complaint once every so often; and all I can imagine is how hard does someone have to work to make that shipping dynamic happen.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-05 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Right? Are there not enough straight characters out there for you?

(Anonymous) 2022-02-05 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Characters aren't interchangable. There are lots of straight characters, but none of them are that particular character who someone really wants to ship with that other character because they like that particular dynamic.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-05 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
1+, Thank you! It's about their dynamic not their gender.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-05 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Boohoo, something's not for the straights for once.

I'm gay myself, and my ships are overwhelmingly m/m and f/f, but even so I've shipped the occasional f/m ship involving a gay character. Sometimes a pair of characters just pings you as shippy, regardless of their canonical sexualities.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-05 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
That have to work just as hard as every other person who makes a non-canon ship fic.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-05 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
yeah ok buddy, you keep fighting the good fight then.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-05 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
They’re right, though. Saying that it’s any harder to write this shipping dynamic than any other that involves a non-canon ship or non-canon sexuality is silly. Whether it’s in bad taste to do it in this particular instance is a completely different story, but it’s not remotely hard.
