Huh. I didn't know T. Kingfisher wrote under another pen name. I love her horror novels.

Yeah, she's a really good writer. I just... don't like her romance arcs.

I'm not familiar with this author/works - what is it exactly that they do that's so disturbing?

She's good at incorporating horror elements in general. So... disturbing in a good way.

With the romances? It's not like she's doing anything wrong, per se? Something about the physicality - to me - feels more like intrusive thoughts than 'fun time'.

I don't... really wanna read about how some woman hated the oral sex her ex-husband gave, come to think of it. It's just dreary. So there's that too.

Hrmmmmmmmm......
No, musings on bad sex aren't generally fun.

NAYRT

tbf, the ex-husband in question was emotionally abusive and only married the protagonist for economic reasons (while pretending to her that it was a love match). So I'd call that scene less dreary and more purposefully disturbing in furtherance of the plot and characterizations.

Thanks for making my secret! The image is lovely.

I love her stories but her romance lines don't work for me at all.

I've followed her work for a LONG time (think 2002 thereabouts) and am very familiar with it, and in general like it and her as a person a lot! That being said, I've found I don't care as much for her longer works, and prefer her short stories and blurbs found in the descriptions of old artwork posted on deviantart and the like. And that's okay!

By which I mean, I agree with ya. Tonal dissonance and genre-mashing is a huge part of her 'thing' and it won't always hit people the same way.
