I read femslash sometimes, I have some femslash ships, I'm bi in RL, but I prefer to stay in the M/M and het communities in fandom for the exact reason you outlined. Or at least, that's one reason. I'd almost forgotten it was a thing, I'd been so successful at avoiding that element

No, you were right the first time. Enough lesbians in fandom who aren't TERFs are like that. It's terrible for the lesbians who aren't, but me and other friends I have in fandom (including other lesbians who ship M/M) have been burned too many times. If I can't see evidence that someone with a lesbian flag in their icon won't attack you for wanting to discuss men or nonbinary characters occasionally, I'm gonna stay far away from them.

I don't know if the people messaging me were lesbians or not, but I really didn't need essays on what it means to be a 'real woman' and how trans women should be harmed, then proceeded to say how they liked my work in the messages.

are you receiving threatening messages anonymously? if you have the option to turn off anonymous messages to your inbox, i strongly suggest you do that. i know you can do this for tumblr accounts, not sure about twitter (i don't use twitter.)

if you're not receiving these messages anonymously, i strongly suggest you report the messages and the users who are making them to the site staff.

Oh I've had anon turned off for years. Unfortunately that didn't stop people who were on a mission to let me know exactly what they think any ways (I remember one who felt justified on telling me to off myself because someone who shipped both slash and femslash MUST be a pervert creep -_-)

I tried reporting one person who wrote up a really messed up message on tumblr but it didn't do anything. Thankfully once I blocked them that was pretty much the last I heard from them.

I'm sorry you've been experiencing this. As someone mentioned below, turn off anonymous messages/comments. Most of these people are nasty cowards. Out the rest. Put their nasty in the public eye so people can see what they are. As for death threats, report and hopefully they lose their account.

I hope you can get back to your fandom love and find a kind and supportive community.
