Just here to say I love Parker, and I completely agree with you about her character arc.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-15 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Parker's arc was about letting herself care about other people, after a lifetime of trauma taught her to only care about herself.

I mean, I don't think that either interpretation is wrong? Learning to deal with emotions and other people helped show her why caring about other people wasn't a bad thing.

Oh I'm in full agreement either way. No matter how you interpret it, Parker's arc was fantastic.

I never watched this show consistently enough to any of that about these characters (aside from the fact they were always looking out for each other) so this is really nice.

Yes! Parker was awesome, and no one tried to 'fix' her - they just tried to help her understand the things that confused her, and supported her when she wanted to branch out, experiment, or do new (emotional) things.

I loved that Hardison was really attracted to her, but he 100% did not push himself on her, did not touch her unless she invited it, did not try to guilt her into a relationship...he went slow and respected her boundaries and was her friend first.

Also Eliot helping her see that she was as worthwhile as the others, even though she (and he) were so different (the scene in the ice cave when they're talking about whether or not to recover the body immediately springs to mind).

An awesome character.

ooh, I'm so conflicted about the ice cave scene, it's very much in character, but it put Hardison on a pedestal that previous episodes had definitely shown was not warranted and I think it really really devalued Parker's previous empathy (like of Parker and Hardison, it's Parker who wants to save all those orphans in Serbia and Hardison who says it's too dangerous; Hardison is NOT sacrificing his life for a dead body but it's a very much Parker's character to wonder if she should), but fandom loves to base Hardison's personality on it and make that his source of difference from the two and ugh.

Eh, I don't really see it as QUITE that black and white.
And i've never seen anyone use that episode as a pivotal character point for HARDISON at all.

I think, personally, it speaks a lot more to Parker's character (and even Elliot's), that they immediately believe that the other three WOULD do whatever they could to get the body out of there, and even if that's a wrong assumption, it speaks to what they think of themselves more than what they know and think of the others.

I agree, but I do think the fandom is apt to take whatever Parker and Elliott say as objective fact about themselves and others than subjective self-esteem issues. It's all over fic.

Fandom does do that, yes.

I couldn't agree more, OP!

Thanks for making my secret!

I agree OP, the treatment of Parker is really thoughtful, and you could tell the writers really wanted to think about what types of behaviors are socially prescribed versus socially warranted.

Leverage is great, Parker is great, Leverage's treatment of Parker is great.

I kind of really like that Leverage Redemption mentions she's in therapy. The fact that it's therapy designed for children (with puppets?) is played as a joke but I like that she's still committed to being her best self.
