It it helps, Yakuza 7 is the first one I played and I fell in love with it. Mostly because I adore games that is like mostly serious with a realistic look, but is also Bonkers, Batshit Stupid As Fuck and god, I love it. I love that Yakuza 7 embraced so much of it.

That said, it has genuinely made me want to seek out the rest of the games in the series (I know they are not all JRPGs, even though that is my preference). I see enough Goro Majima to know I want to learn more about that sexy garbage man.

I recommend you play Yakuza 0 next. Not only is 0 generally agreed to be best of the Kiryu-led games, it's also got the most Majima out of all of them.

I get that! Yakuza 7 took the insanity of all the others and turned it up to 11, but the story and characters are still so deep and meaningful!

I hope you enjoy the other games in the series if you play them! They’re not all JRPGs, true, but there’s usually still some elements as far leveling up. And it’s always felt fantastically balanced, just like any good JRPG should be.

I agree with the other anon that Yakuza 0 is a great place to start the Kiryu saga, and that it is one of the best in the whole series! Then Kiwami would be a great place to go from there, as it’s the remake of the first game. Unless you get the urge to play the original PS2 game, which I would recommend if it wasn’t so inconvenient and probably pretty expensive unless it’s emulated. Thanks Sega/Sony :/ I’m also the OP of a different Yakuza secret that’s coming along soon that explains my feelings about that more, and also explains that I’m a very biased source when it comes to to the first game, which I’m aware of and a bit embarrassed about lol.
