It is called getting old. For a start, you've aged out of the primary demographic of most blockbusters, sorry Millennial it is a Gen Z world now, but also as we get older we just find it harder to enjoy new things. New stuff just doesn't bring the same hit of dopamine they once did, the music industry has done a lot of work studying this effect if you want to google for the science behind it. It is all nostalgia and liking continuations of the franchises you enjoyed in your twenties with older versions of the same characters from here on in.

Oh man this movie was the SHIT when I was a teenager. I feel like it's quite self-aware as well; it makes fun of a lot of highschool horror tropes.

Aside from that, I feel that's just aging fatigue. Sometimes it's hard to get as invested as you were in your formative years, and the bleakness of the last few years has sapped a lot of people's creative permissiveness as well. Try to let some of that go, and you might enjoy media more like you did when you were younger.

Honestly, I kind of felt a bit of a shift in the 00s. There was still some good stuff... just less of it. Then everything went dystopian and remake and reboot and I'm just kind of meh about it. (Yes, I know all of those things also existed prior to 2000, but it seemed like there was more original material in the mix too.)

Everyone can easily point to the things they hate about Hollywood (reboots, sequels, Marvel) and I don't think it's wrong, but there's also apparently some rumblings about a universal truth behind losing interest in things as you age. A lot of people here at F!S have mentioned reading a lot as kids but now being entirely too picky about what they read now, myself included. It extends to a lot of media. There's something about the comfort of nostalgia (for the real thing, not a reboot) in trying times, something about risk assessment, something about being more certain of what you like/don't like, something about being tired and limited free time and so on and so forth.

Basically, not being into as much new stuff now isn't not about age, but it isn't entirely. Hollywood can still be absolute shite regardless of your age. What's going to be hilarious is when the movie-greenlighting suits think they're banking on GenX/Xennial/millennial nostalgia only to find that we're all fucking jaded and that shit don't work like it used to.

I am going to say it's getting old and having experience. I don't see any significant difference in my movie enjoyment, I do not watch too many movies. But I've just dropped fanfic because scientist character in it said something about having sugar rush. Sugar. Rush. Is. Not. A fucking. Thing. I stop enjoying fics other smallest things

Are the other factors unchanged? Are you watching films in the same setting (be that at home or in a theatre), with proper focus (not while scrolling on the phone or cooking or what not), with enough sleep and presence of mind (you aren't staring dead tired or aren't generally stressed or sth)? If none of this applies than maybe your tastes or simply POV have changed (happens to all of us as we age) and maybe you need to look for a bit different kind of entertainment? There's an almost infinite number of films and TV shows made nowadays, there is surely something for everyone out there, but it can get a bit difficult to figure out where "your" section is hiding once your tastes no longer align with the top of the mainstream.

Part of it is that you develop higher standards as you get older, gain more experience, and become more versed in your chosen genres.

I read Eragon as a kid and loved it because I didn't recognize how bad the writing was and how it just takes a bunch of tropes and cliches from other, better things, and tries to use them in a way that usually falls flat. Now that I'm older and write myself and put effort into actually learning about and getting better at it I can recognize those flaws much more easily. I've also read a lot more fantasy and can pick out "hey you just got that idea from [blank] and didn't have the decency to at least make it good." This doesn't necessarily mean writing has gotten worse but that I've gotten better at recognizing it.

I used to be able to read a lot more trash fic than I do now too. Which I'm both glad for and a bit disappointed by. It takes a lot more time to find something I can actually sit down and stomach reading.

But I do also think that stuff is just a bit trash these days as well. And to me it's not just about adaptations and remakes galore. It all feels so gimmicky. I told my mom the other day that it was good production quality but bad storytelling. The entertainment version of being concerned with whether or not you can do something and not whether or not you should.

The cartoon was basically a do-over, letting them condense and re-work a lot of their roleplay stuff with less awkward reaction gaps. Table top role play is always a lot slower too.

By their regular youtube content, do you mean just their 4+ hour unedited liveplay sessions, or their occasional smaller videos, like the Mighty Nien catch-up animations or the old how-to-play mini lessons? Because if it's the liveplay, you could just...not like watching unedited liveplay? Which is totally valid.
