That is a seriously fucked up scenario. I hate any trope where privacy isn't respected (looking at you, dosed with truth serum).

Truth serums a funny one for me. If it's treated as a joke then he'll no. If it's treated as the violation it is then I can cope. And I don't mean thirty chapters of everyone hand wringing over it, just people trying to help the doped person by not listening/acknowledging it is enough for me.

IA, and it's an incredibly rare truth serum story where friends immediately move to protect the doped person from speaking.

You'd hope these days it would be more common, but you're right it does seem very rare.

I did write one once, it was a lot of fun. They locked the dosee in the back of the ship and surveilled him with the sound off. Piped in music to calm him and he started, um, dancing. If you can call it that.

Look, no system is perfect. :D

I guess the problem with that style of dealing with truth serum in a story, is that it becomes a pointless part of the plot. Guess you need a middle ground for it to add anything. People try and help but something is revealed anyway. Would definitely like to see more of that in fic. Your mileage obviously varies though.

It wasn't pointless in this case because the care the OTP showed toward the dosee's privacy made him come forth with his feelings later. But yeah, that can't always be the plot.
