Like anon above said...I mean, you're not wrong in general, but it's a really intentionally significant part of the Meredith kids' story that they're known to be badly neglected (and no one DOES ANYTHING to help), yet they are still harshly judged for the effects of the neglect, like dressing inappropriately/shabbily by contemporary standards or not knowing how to act like prim and proper early 1900s middle class children in every circumstance
