*looks at my collection of vintage 80s fanzines* Uh, yeah, way too many.

Zines are actual physical magazines/books on paper. Some of them are really beautifully printed with very good fanart and extra little merch things like pins and stickers. That's what you're getting that you won't get digitally.

They're curated too - generally you have to apply to be included. (And you bet this gets wanky)

I recently bought a keychain from Etsy and am considering buying a plushie (since the actual property doesn't have any of that character) too! Plus more cute shit like pins and what not. I usually never do (the only other stuff I had were actual merch items from the property like a folder and jewelry), but I'm trying to let myself get things if I want and can afford them.

I've bought a lot more unofficial stuff than official! I've got fan-made t-shirts, zines, art books, doujinshi, stickers, pins, art prints...

I got into HP late!!! Like I watched the movies with the book in tow and only started getting into fandom around 2012/2013. Which was late, relative to the fandom's heyday (but in a way I'm glad I missed the drama and could just watch retellings of it from the sidelines).

Might I ask which anime/manga (?) You're referring to in the first part of your answer /any doujinshi recs you may have/artists you enjoy?

And everyone has their likes and dislikes. This actor is very blonde-samey to me, but you do you, OP - have fun with it!

Eh, I find him more attractive than Jason Segel (physically, at least). For this movie, I would put Jason Segel at okay and Russel Brand at cute, with Bill Hader being really cute. I usually think Paul Rudd is pretty cute, too, but the character styling did not work for me. But, yeah, none of the guys in this movie are a ~damn~.

Interestingly, this movie seems to be one of the rarer cases of the director being more attractive than the leading star.

Video game actually! Vagrant Story, a late PS1 era action-RPG from the same team that made Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy XII. Twenty-two years old now and the fandom is basically dead/scattered, and the artists who drew stuff I loved have moved on and their pages are gone - though occasionally I still find amazing stuff floating around. (Like this fan art of my OTP which I stumbled across in a google search last year and almost screamed in glee...)

And I only found doujinshi like two or three times, once only because I was still running the art column at a big fansite and a regular contributor sent me a thing she drew for it because she knew I was a huuuge Hardin fan. And I was like "okay I want to support this financially". :D Haven't seen any doujin for probably a decade, unfortunately, but a bunch of people in English fandom put out a digital Ivalice anthology zine last year that had some VS content (and I recognized almost all the names, hahah).

...Yeah, my fandom was kind of small even when it wasn't actually dead. :P

Yup! I've bought two fan-made fanfic anthologies, with complimentary merch (pins, posters of fan art, stickers, etc). One for Stucky and one for Hannigram. They're on the bookshelf with the rest of my books.

They're curated, edited, and there's often art matched with the fic - even electronic 'zines tend to be a nice reading experience.

I just learned about Wordle the other day, too. I played it a couple of times and it was okay, but I'm confused about the countdown clock aspect. Am I meant to just sit around and wait for it to count down, or...?

Yep, you can guess 1 word every 24 hours.

I think that's one of the biggest reasons it's gotten so popular - you can't just run through and do a million words immediately and get bored of it.

Oh yeah, buckets of it. I have gotten a lot of stuff from either cons or from etsy.

I love the creativity that fans put into merch. Things like official posters are almost always a picture of Actor Face or Action shot with Name of IP. Almost all of the most beautiful posters I've gotten have been fan-made (Studio Ghibli is the only exception)

Myspace. By the time I actually got one just about everyone had already migrated to FB.

Zines are in a lot of fandoms nowdays. So I don't see the problem. My friend has a lot of them in physical form and even made one herself. It takes a lot of time to organize and needs money to print. Some people can use them for scams, it's possible, but all zines I know just what it is - printed and/or pdf book with fanart and/ or fics

But I don't buy unofficial fandom stuff if creator is indie. Usually they have their own designs and it's their income so buying fandom merch is just shitty.

Yes, exactly! And you have community thing going on, because word of the day is the same for everyone.
I prefer clones though, geography one is my favorite
