Have you ever bought unoffical fandom stuff? I just realized that I never have.

I've bought some fan-made t-shirts at conventions.

Probably yeah. A lot of stuff at 'cons is fan made.

Pretty much everything I’ve bought at cons. I have fanart, stickers, keychains, pins, and jewelry.

Yes, I've got a few things I bought on etsy.

Yeah, a few things. For one thing, there are times where what I want is something that's a replica of an item from the show. And official merch often doesn't sell that.

Oh yeah. There wasn't really much official merch for my fandom until they made the figures last year, so I bought doujinshi when I found it. A friend actually found a fan t-shirt on one of those daily geek shirt sites and omg I was floored.

At cons I used to make a habit of buying some nerdy t-shirt for my fandoms in the dealer's room or artist's alley. And artist's alleys have cute handmade fandom jewelry and stuff. If I had money I would've commissioned some fan art of my OTP because I'm the only one who draws them otherwise. :P

Might I ask which anime/manga (?) You're referring to in the first part of your answer /any doujinshi recs you may have/artists you enjoy?

Video game actually! Vagrant Story, a late PS1 era action-RPG from the same team that made Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy XII. Twenty-two years old now and the fandom is basically dead/scattered, and the artists who drew stuff I loved have moved on and their pages are gone - though occasionally I still find amazing stuff floating around. (Like this fan art of my OTP which I stumbled across in a google search last year and almost screamed in glee...)

And I only found doujinshi like two or three times, once only because I was still running the art column at a big fansite and a regular contributor sent me a thing she drew for it because she knew I was a huuuge Hardin fan. And I was like "okay I want to support this financially". :D Haven't seen any doujin for probably a decade, unfortunately, but a bunch of people in English fandom put out a digital Ivalice anthology zine last year that had some VS content (and I recognized almost all the names, hahah).

...Yeah, my fandom was kind of small even when it wasn't actually dead. :P

*looks at my collection of vintage 80s fanzines* Uh, yeah, way too many.

I recently bought a keychain from Etsy and am considering buying a plushie (since the actual property doesn't have any of that character) too! Plus more cute shit like pins and what not. I usually never do (the only other stuff I had were actual merch items from the property like a folder and jewelry), but I'm trying to let myself get things if I want and can afford them.

I've bought a lot more unofficial stuff than official! I've got fan-made t-shirts, zines, art books, doujinshi, stickers, pins, art prints...

yeah, lots of it

Yep, a t shirt and a zippered pouch.

Yup! I've bought two fan-made fanfic anthologies, with complimentary merch (pins, posters of fan art, stickers, etc). One for Stucky and one for Hannigram. They're on the bookshelf with the rest of my books.

Oh yeah, buckets of it. I have gotten a lot of stuff from either cons or from etsy.

I love the creativity that fans put into merch. Things like official posters are almost always a picture of Actor Face or Action shot with Name of IP. Almost all of the most beautiful posters I've gotten have been fan-made (Studio Ghibli is the only exception)

Re: Based on 2

Yes!
But I don't buy unofficial fandom stuff if creator is indie. Usually they have their own designs and it's their income so buying fandom merch is just shitty.

I don't know if this counts, but I bought a few Transformers/Jem/RuPaul's Drag Race related items from RedBubble.

A lot! I love supporting artists in my local fandom circles and tbh, a lot of my fandoms lacked official merchandise.

A couple years ago, I finally had my first fandom husbando so I went nuts collecting everything I could from enamel pins to jackets involving the character. I love being surrounded by fandom stuff that I can't picture a life without it now.

I'm glad a lot of artists are moving on from prints because while I like them in general, there's only so much space I have on my walls for them. Being able to display their art pieces in alternative ways (like acrylic standees or zines) has been amazing!

Lots of buttons, a few fanart prints.

I collect doujinshi, so yeah. A LOT.
I have mostly Japanese doujinshi, but I have some fanzines made from English speaking content creators.
I also have some bookmarks and some notebooks with a fanart on the cover, and some unofficial keychains bought in Japan.

I much prefer buying unofficial merch, but I also have a decent collection of official action figures and I bought a ton of official keychain bough in Japan to give as gifts to my friends.

Oh definitely - at every convention before the pandemic I would always head towards artist alley to buy all kinds of unofficial merch like badges, stickers and art works (I still have my Kirk and Spock portraits hanging in my room from the last convention I went to).
