103 - I'm really not sure what you're getting at with this secret. Liking Rose makes you a misogynist? Not liking Rose makes you a misogynist? Or does the liking Rose part have nothing to do with the misogyny part?

But uh. If it's the first one, I don't see how liking Rose could make someone a misogynist. If it's the second, I don't see how not liking Rose could automatically make someone a misogynist (if the dislike is genuine, and not based in the fact that Rose is female). If it's the third, lesbians are not automatically exempted from being misogynists.

I kind of agree. I mean, he's developed some over the season, but I never picked up on all the awesomeness people thinks he has. Except the last episode, where I finally saw a little bit of something. Not that that really changed my opinion on him, just made everyone else's obsession seem a little less weird.

I don't think the OP of this secret is a snob. S/he's not saying the friend needed to hate the movie to be a true fan, or that the friend's a horrible fan for not buying the special edition instead of the regular, or that the friend wouldn't really get the point if he or she had an attraction to one of the characters. Or even that someone can't love Watchmen if they've only seen the movie.

The OP is annoyed because his/her friend is joining the fandom under false pretenses. Watchmen fandom is, at the moment, being flooded with people going "I just saw the movie, and I really loved it and now I'm interested in reading the book!" and for the most part, the fans are saying, "Yes! Yes! Read the book, it's great!" The attitude really isn't that condescending as long as the movie-only people are fully aware that the movie isn't all there is to it (and especially if the newbies want to read the book.) Of course the fans like the book better-- they've had it for over twenty years, unlike the shiny new movie. And of course there are some elitist dicks. But in general, polite and humble movie!newbies seem to be given encouragement to get into it more, not encouragement to gtfo and die.

The OP's friend is pretending to be a book fan instead of a movie fan, and is trying to show the OP up. The OP actually took the time to read the book, and the friend didn't, but is pretending to and benefitting from it. That =/= being a snob. The friend should just be okay with being a movie!newbie, or go find a copy of the book and read it (but that's so haaaaaard.) I'd be pissed too if I put the time into reading something, or the money into buying it, and someone just pretended to have done the same thing to be liked more in fandom.

Though the 'same favorite characters' comment is a little stupid. Maybe you just have the same favorite characters. Hell, if you're a fan of Dan, Laurie, and Adrian, then we have the same favorite characters, and I'm not copying you.
