I thought everything up until the end was fine as an adaptation of the first part of the book. The problem is the story doesn't *work* without the latter half of the book, and what they replaced it with ruined the whole thing. I have some affection for the movie just based on the atmosphere but I'd love a remake that actually does the book justice.

I know it's popular to say that things should be TV shows instead of movies, but I really would absolutely love a miniseries adaptation. Even at a basic plot level, I feel like you need a longer time to work through the extended arc that doesn't really match movie pacing.

Of course, there are also so many little details I'd love to see... the night forest/day desert, the weeping worms that turn into aggressively laughing butterflies, the highly communal grass-sailing people, etc. The world was so incredibly rich. Maybe it's time for me to re-read it.

I've never read this book as a child, it wasn't very popular in my country, but after your comment I definitely plan to. So Thanks
