Please ignore all the trolls that hate on you just for being born in Russia. It's not the moral responsibility of civilians (esp. Anti-war civilians) that this war is taking place. Russia is a very corrupted place who has a strong hold on their people due to their strong propaganda and it has been for a looong time now. It's not your fault this is happening.

I'm European and I'm currently learning Russian because I love the history and culture of your country and I'm getting a lot of awful comments telling me that I should stop spending time learning the language of an aggressor. :/// The world isn't sane right now.

Hope you'll be all right and safe, nonny. I'll be thinking about you so please keep us updated. <3

Damn. This comments are shitty!
Even the worst countries deserve to have their culture preserved. And it's not like you're saying that war is ok, just by learning language. I mean, people should forget English if it's the case or something.

Hey, talk culture to me, it's been... a day. What are you interested in?

Man, I'm sorry your day was bad. Hope it'll get better... sending you love and support.

SO!!! RUSSIA. I've loved Russian since I was 15 years old, when I first read Doctor Živago by Pasternak because I was slightly interested in the October Revolution. I don't even know why, but that novel sparked something in me and I began devouring a lot of Russian novels. Dostoevskij, Tolstoj, Čechov, Turgenev... I've read 'em all. I have read all of Dostoevskij's works and it's by far my favourite author. He influenced me a lot when I was in high school and I'm very grateful.
I got into Russian history and loved the history of Caterina the Great and Ivan the Terrible. A lot of very charismatic and problematic leader in Russian history. URSS's history is very interesting too and it's a shame a lot of people dismiss it because it has shaped the world geopolitical sphere for half a century and more.

The Russian sci-fi is awesome, too! Solaris is one of the best sci-fi story and movie ever.
I'm into horror movies, too, and Russia have some awesome horror movies. 2020's Sputnik is the perfect horror sci-fi (my fav genre so I'm biased) and I LOVE IT SO MUCH.

ALSO!!! Since I was a little kid I listened to a lot of classical music and I adore Stravinskij, Čajkovskij, Rachmaninov, Šostakovič. Stravinskij is my fav because he's so creepy... I used to listen to the rite of spring before sleeping. I wonder how I didn't have nightmares every night bach then ahaha

Lately I'm branching out thanks to Spotify and I'm listening to more modern artists. There are a lot of incredibly talented Indie groups!!!
Right now I'm into: The Hatters, Peremotka, Valentin Strykalo and Dajte Tank (!). Last year I was the top 1% listener to the Hatter and Dajte Tank (!) and I was very proud of myself LMAO

Дайте танк (!) – Слова-паразиты https://youtu.be/WAOpVxr4ba8
I LOVE THIS TOO MUCH AAAAH

(I wanted to study Russian in university, but chose another language so I'm slowly learning it by myself in my 30s as a hobby)

NAYRT
I watched "Doctor Zhivago" in 2020 on Netflix- so good!
And the TV show "To the Lake" last year. Can't wait for another season!

AYRT
The 1965 movie? It's good, isn't it? I watched it after reading the novel and even if the experience is very different, the movie is excellent nonetheless.
I have To the Lake on my watchlist. I heard gret things about that! I'll probaly catch up when the 2sd season is out. ...hopefully it will be.

As a lot of Russians who were school children I am so not into classical literature. :D
Oh, I am into classical music myself though. And somehow prefer Russian opera to the Italian.
Stravinsky have this absolute creepy nervous energy and I am all for it.
I've been listening a lot of choir music, apparently there were a lot of soviet composers who were doing it. I am not fond of religion and religious messages, but it's beautiful

If you can (I am not sure if they are translated into English, they are not translated into Russian often enough) I can recommend Yakutia (Saha) movies. It's the biggest Far East region in Russia and their voice is absolutely unique. As all colonized territories they have this difficult cultural and ethnic history and it matters
