Especially when the summary is some kind of Dead Dove Do Not Eat stuff. I've seen that before in summaries. Like...don't put non-con or underage snippets of your story in the summary!

Okay, is everything dark labelled that now? I can't really figure out what that label is for. I thought it was for specifically graphic, bloody stuff like cannibalism and graphic torture.

Apparently. And it is so annoying. Just having non-con in your fic doesn't mean it is DD:DNE.

I don't think even that really fit the bill, but really only incredibly twisted stuff. The kind of depravity where you'd wonder who would even come up with it.

So yeah, the label is starting to be used more widely. I don't know if I mind, it's sort of a useful catch-all term meaning 'hey it's clearly labeled, don't come crying about it later' for stuff that's not to everyone's taste?

Especially the way/context it was used upthread I feel like it makes sense.

It means "this is exactly what it says on the tin". This isn't rape-recovery fic, it's graphic rapefic, etc. There was a trend of using it for only the most extreme of the extreme for a bit, but it's genuinely useful to signpost "look, this element that might squick you? that's it, that's the fic, don't click if it's not what you're looking for".

Some people decided that it was only for "The Aristocrats" level content, but the original DD:DNE tag basically just meant "don't @ me for shit I warned you about in the tags."

This. No matter how much people insist that it only means THE most potentially shocking and objectionable content, and always has meant that, it did originally just mean “here’s what this fic is about and what it contains. don’t like, don’t read.”. And I think that meaning is much better, and more intuitive, so I hope the trend of insisting it only means “The Aristocrats” level content goes away eventually.
