For a very brief time near the inception of AO3, there was a small cohort of writers who would froth and shriek about other writers ~inflating their comment count~ by replying to comments because...something something some people occasionally ranked their searches by comments. Most of them have either fucked off or shut up in the intervening decade, and no one else ever gave a damn.
