Um.......not in my experience? It's not anything I've ever noticed in any fic I've read. I don't sit and compare the numbers. The *only* time I notice the comments number is when it's over like 200 or something and I may or may not leave a comment on a fic like that if I wasn't super-enthused by it.

Otherwise...kudos and comments just aren't things that matter to me when reading a fic.

Fair enough. Well it's nice to know it doesn't matter to some. I worry about this too, and I totally get where OP is coming from.

I think the people it does matter to are very few and far between, and just really vocal about it, but it just hasn't ever been a thing in my circles of fandom for any of us readers to worry about that.

And however it sounds, it's not something I really worry about as a writer, either. I mean - yes, it's super nice to get kudos, and comments, but I don't look at my stats or obsessively count them or anything. They're just there, and they're great to get/have, but they're not something I spend a lot of time thinking about.
