I think "inspired by anime and video games" is more accurate than "tropes" to what AYRT probably meant. When writers list anime or game titles among their influences, essentially. The author of the book in the secret name drops a bunch of anime as influences when they pitch their book, and I and other readers picked up some parts in the book that are not-so-subtle nods to said anime. I caught some before I even knew the author was such a weeb; I believe there was even an indirect "Over 9000" reference. Nothing drawn out, but some people will definitely find that kind of thing "cringe."
