TOS is a good show and it's fairly optimistic, but the special effects are not great. If that's something that's an issue for you, it will probably be a problem with TOS. You could give the movies a try though, because the production quality is generally a lot higher on those.

DS9 is a great show but yeah, it's definitely darker, so probably not something you want to watch right now.

DA with a caveat - If you're skipping straight to the movies, skip the first one and start with Wrath of Khan. Star Trek the Motion Picture (aka the first one) is pretty, but it's kind of a slog.
