The first two or three eps of Disco are a bit offputting. Dark tone, odd aesthetics, still finding their feet.

Once I got past that though... I found the end of the s1 story intensely moving - it starts dark but really hammers into the Starfleet utopian ideal. Investigating the temptation to use morally pragmatic, ruthless, evil tactics, and why we shouldn't do that. So... yes, it has a darker aesthetic, but it keeps to the spirit of the franchise.

S2 was also interesting - they brought in another of those omnipotent beings that infest the canon, quoted a variation of Clarke's Law: "Is sufficiently advanced technology indistinguishable from godhood? If so, what then?" and... really dug into that.

I found s3 disappointing, unfortunately. Haven't tried s4 yet, because it's no longer available in my country.

tl;dr Yes, it has its flaws, but the first two seasons (at least) are worth taking a look at. Though... "I'm not in the mood for darker SF atm" I cannot lie, Disco is dark.

Also most of the characters ain't assholes when you know a bit more about them.

I couldn't get through season 4 because SPOILER another bombed planet. It was made more tastefully than in the movie, but I just noped out of it.

The fact that each season is a story is reason enough to deep six it. I have no patience for them dragging one episode's worth of story across a whole season. Just fucking get it over with and move onto another adventure. Fucking season arcs, so much filler and padding and pointless running in circles in case they accidentally resolve things too early.

Sounds like you need a nap.

Nah, I agree with this anon, though. I love long arcs, but they are out of place in disco
