Early Daniel was the best Daniel. After he died, ascended, then de-ascended, he became a bit of a bitch with little of the heart he used to have.

Take this with a grain of salt, since as far as I know it's all just rumors, but apparently Daniel's actor was unhappy with his storylines and demanded that Daniel got more action parts/wanted more say in Daniel's storylines. Which is why Daniel became somewhat unlikeable in the later seasons.

Michael Shanks definitely became a diva after he bulked up. Friend of mine used to go to a lot of the conventions as she knew Colin Cunningham (Paul Davis) and most of the regulars made it a habit to avoid Shanks.

Idk, I feel like if I had been through what the character went through, I'd get a little sharp around the edges too. I do kinda prefer early-seasons Daniel, but I can also see where the character's development makes sense given his experiences
