Early Daniel was the best Daniel. After he died, ascended, then de-ascended, he became a bit of a bitch with little of the heart he used to have.

It's funny, I can see the comparison but I feel like there's quite a big difference between them. I think it's because Luke goes through such an arc in the original movies whereas Daniel Jackson is much more constant through the Stargate series IMO. So I tend to think of Luke as either whiny, super-young, just-finding-out-about-the-Jedi Luke, or super-mature Jedi Knight Luke, and I tend to think of Daniel as somewhere in between those extremes.

Both great characters though!

Hm... I guess as a counterpoint, I'm been around F!S to some degree or another since its LJ days and I actually find the commenters more chill and friendly/open to discussion than when F!S was bigger and more crowded. Also, the comm seems more earnest and less into trolling. And I admire and respect people who are willing to post here under their username from week to week. Me, I would hate if people could track my takes from week to week. I imagine I would eventually post enough bad takes that people would find me irritating and ignore the times when my takes are actually good and interesting because I've exhausted their patience with me.

Unless this secret is talking about anonymous commenters? I just realized it didn't actually specify. But yeah, in any case, maybe I'm missing something (I don't usually check the comments unless a secret draws me) but I'm mostly happy with the culture of this comm whenever I do check the comments.

I wouldn't even call that BFF-like, unless the parent is trying to lean on the kid for emotional stuff. Just being someone your kid can go to, not have to fear for any reason, I would think that's part of what makes a parent (though I realize this doesn't fit the definition for some).

Though I'm unfamiliar with Veronica Mars, I totally get this secret. I also only have fictional things to reference any kind of healthy relationship between parent and child, even if I have to write it myself.
