Are you, like, 12? This is the "pettiest, prickliest fandom community" you've encountered? Really? Good God, you would have hated fandom spaces in the aughts.

Not the FictionAlley shipping debate threads. Not Television Without Pity. Not ONTD circa 2007-2012. Not any random LJ community dedicated to any tv show or movie you can think of. None of those places had anything on F!S. Oh lord.

nayrt, but this post is great example of what OP was talking about.

"I don't relate to this thing"

"WELL GROW THE FUCK UP WE HAD TO WALK 15 MILES IN THE SNOW TO WANK IN FANDOM SPACES ON THE INTERNET, AND THEY WERE REAL FANDOM SPACES THAT CHEWED YOUR LITERAL FACE OFF, NONE OF THIS PUSSY 'y u no agree w/ me????' DISCOURSE"

An exaggeration, of course, but it doesn't feel far off the mark.

And for the record, I've been to places that make F!S look like Sesame Street. Not that it should matter, but I suspect that not mentioning that fact will somehow invalidate my entire point for people who believe their threshold for toxicity should be everyone else's threshold.

You’re right.
