I remember reading a lot in my early days of learning about BDSM (since my OTP lend themselves so well to it) that a not insignificant amount of subs in the bedroom are people who have a lot of power in their regular ordinary public lives, and sexual submissiveness is like a vacation from that responsibility. Which seems pretty reasonable to me.

I get the feeling OP has come across a subset of fandom that doesn't understand/isn't aware that not everyone is 24/7...
