But a more mature author is likely to have more experience in dealing with hardships and pain and having to face metaphorical demons. Obviously when it comes to some fictional things, most writers won't have that specific experience in their background. But like the other anon said, they still are more likely to have a lot more relevant experiences to draw from than a younger writer will.

I wouldn't say that's necessarily true at all? I know people half my age who have been through twice the amount of stuff that I've been through in life. They may be younger, but they could write with a lot more experience on certain things than I ever could.

True. Nothing can beat decades of experience if you’re trying to get into the mindset of someone older and wiser. But if it’s just general life experience, some people start young, and have just as much experience as some older people. Including in the workplace, and even living independent lives. Not to mention experience when it comes to tough situations and trauma, which older people absolutely don’t have a monopoly on, because there’s no age limit for those.

AEQ an older person will have more life experience, even if it's not true in every individual case

That's why I said "more likely to" vs. saying that life experience is a guaranteed thing with age. I know young people who've been through a lot, too. But generally speaking, the chances of people gaining a wide range of experiences tends to increase with age.

Experience also might not be strictly "things that have happened to you" but also "how you've processed the things that have happened to you". A 50-year-old and a 20-year-old might have had the same thing happen to them at 15, but will have different perspectives and understandings of it.

Very good point.
