no specific fandom: NSFW TEXT

(Anonymous) 2022-04-06 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
i posted a smut fic a while ago where there's blatant mention of the characters Thinking about something and then Deciding that they don't care. let's say, for anonymity's sake, that it's using condoms.

all good so far, right? well, i keep getting comments saying something to the effect of "LOL WHY DOES EVERYONE FORGET ABOUT USING CONDOMS???"

it's mentioned DURING the porn so it's not like i can assume that readers just skipped to "the good part". it's making me wonder about my writing skills, if something i thought was so obvious is getting brought up like, three times during the fic...

Honestly OP, (following the example you gave), did you tag it with "unsafe sex"? Or "breeding kink" etc. if applicable? Not that people read tags, but then come on -- but also totally giving you the point of "A has a whole internal monologue about not wearing condoms" and people just reacting anyway. Idgi.

Although I won't deny if it's not tagged, IN MY HEAD, I'm like "Character, you better wrap it before you tap it! Somebody's gonna get pregnant! Or an std!" But I wouldn't comment it. Frankly, these days I've been in the mood for "unsafe" type of fics, so reading the whole putting in a condom thing is just annoying lol. But anyway. People react to everything and anything.

the example was given to keep my anonymity, as stated! i really doubt anybody would figure me out if it was specified, but it's still prefer not to: just know that it was canon-specific and that i really don't think it was anything that would need tagging. if i did i wouldn't be still wondering about it to the point of making a secret. i do appreciate the other viewpoint though, and i'll try to keep that in mind for future fics that do involve protection!

That's normal, and just shows how desperate some people are to prove that they know all about what real sex is like. Because they have it. All the time. Totally.

Honestly I don't get the obsession with realism in fic/origfic sex period. Like, this is my perfect little headworld, no one has an STI and if they get pregnant (if it's het) then it's planned (by the author).

Fucking THIS. It is completely cool if you like realistic smut, but I feel like people often come off as kind of smug about it, like they're smarter and more mature and have better taste because they like realistic smut.

Eh, some readers are just bad at noticing details, or are hyperfocused on one thing. It ain't you.

secret-maker, can i please add that i'd like the "let's say, for anonymity's sake, that it's using condoms" bolded or somehow otherwise emphasized? it seems like i should really have chosen a different metaphor!
