I feel so conflicted because I don't like Ross but totally get his exasperation with some of the stuff Phoebe believes because that'd annoy me too. So I actually end up on his side!

Any time I try to decide who my least favourite is (other than Ross) I do usually land on Phoebe I have to say.

I get where you’re coming from, especially being conflicted, because I actually do like Ross from a comedic standpoint. And I’ve sided with Ross on other things, like The Break fiasco, which is both of their faults. Ross’s for sleeping with someone within hours, Rachel’s for not being clearer about what being “on a break” even mean, and how it’s different from breaking up.

But I’m still almost never on his side for these times with Phoebe. Yes, her beliefs are rather kooky, and that must be frustrating for a paleontologist like Ross. But it’s still not his right to try to change other’s beliefs to try to fit his own, no matter if he’s the one with science on his side or not. And he’s trying to do that with Phoebe pretty much every time she brings up her differing beliefs and opinions, and refuses to let it go, like in The One Where Heckles Dies. That’s unacceptable behavior. And she even calls him on his arrogance, and he has nothing to say to that to even attempt to defend himself. Because he knows she’s right.

And that’s why after him bugging her about her beliefs across the first 4 seasons, The One with the Cat finally has him leave her alone about not conforming to his beliefs. Even though the episode still does suck, and the fact that Phoebe kept someone else’s cat for so long under the belief it was her mom was still awful. It’s funny that the episode where Ross finally lets his arrogant superiority habit with Phoebe go is the one episode I was definitely on his side because he was completely right about this cat needing to be brought back to his owners.

You're right, even though I agree with him/am not really a believer in the spiritual, he's definitely a total arsehole about it. In real life I mostly live and let live with that stuff unless I feel like someone is going to get conned out of a lot of money or is risking harm to themselves or whatever, then I might say something.

But it's a comedy show and everything is done for exaggeration, including Phoebe's kookiness and Ross being a jerk to her about it.

That's interesting about the cat episode though. Huh, never realised that before. He would've been within his rights to actually keep calling her out on that one seeing as it was someone's pet.
