it was on national TV

NAYRT but is this a 'if a tree falls in a forest' type thing? Will is in trouble because he did it in public? Had he slapped Chris after the show was over and only a handful of people saw it, it doesn't count??

Yes. A significant part of the reason that Will is in trouble and that people care about it and there's so much handwringing about it is because everyone saw it happen on national TV. It wouldn't really be morally different if he had done it at an afterparty, but fewer people would hear about it and it would be much less salient.

Yeah, and also when the entire thing was televised, it sort of eliminates the whole "he said-she said" aspect that can make private situations murkier. There's absolutely no question as to exactly how it went down because everyone saw it happen live.

DA

Very true.

exactly- it's one thing to know that nasty things happen behind the scenes of the Hollywood machine (and even when there IS discussion it's usually overpowered by the glitz and the glam) but it's hard to ignore something that happens DURING the show.
