I don't think they really got quiet. That argument popped up at least once or twice whenever a complaint about the last season and/or Dany's poorly handled descent into madness was mentioned.

Also, people just don't mention GoT much these days since the last season crashed and burned, so that's probably part of it.

This. There are a few people here who are really obnoxious about hating Dany.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-23 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Not to mention at least one very obnoxious Dany stan and their repetitive secrets.

Team It Was Obvious Dany Was Murderous And Violent **AND** The Last Season Sucked. Both are true, IMO. Just because a character has obvious violent rage tendencies doesn't mean she shouldn't get a full final portion of her arc instead of just snapping from one episode to the next.

This. Dany is my favorite character and it was still obvious this was where things were heading. But they did a terrible, terrible job of showing it on the show. I hope the books do a better job, if they get finished. It could have worked if done right, it just really didn't.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-22 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Absolutely this.

It was pretty clear that this is where her story would eventually lead, but my god the show writers botched it. Instead of a build-up of at least a season they did it in 1 episode and I honestly ended up finding it hilarious because her character switch was so sudden an abrupt it shunted me right out of the story. I'm mad about it because I think she could have been a great villain and IT WAS RUINED. Humphf.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-22 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it probably would have been good if it had actually been written out by GRRM but obviously that's never going to happen now.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-22 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm reading the books now and while they haven't gotten to that point yet, after reading A Storm of Swords and A Dance of Dragons, I can see how she could go down an evil path. I don't think she's going to handle it well if Westeros does not see her as a savior.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-22 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
THIS. Honestly for me the fact that she could use horrible amounts of violence to get "justice" and possibly become worse than Cersei was one of the main thing that got me interested in her character. I love complex gray mentally unstable characters and Dani had great potential there.
The excecution though.... what the hell. Nope.

+100

"Dany was always meant to be a monster" and "That was possibly the dumbest and least satisfying way to end Dany's story" are not mutually exclusive.

Two months of "I don't understand how Steve Rogers can kill hundreds of Nazis and still be a hero, but Dany flambes a few dozen kids and suddenly she's a villain" sure were fun though./s

(Anonymous) 2022-04-23 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
There were some bad takes, but I never saw any like that. Were there seriously people out there comparing killing Nazis with killing innocent children? Other than in like, actual Nazi subreddits?

Yeah I knew that she was heading that way, but I still think the last season or two was rushed. And this applies to more characters than just Dany but she's perhaps the most visible example.

I still can't believe they were offered more episodes to wrap it up and said no. Talk about the perfect demonstration of how to begin completely tanking any goodwill toward your show.

it's interesting to me that you identify with people who said "you were stupid for liking dany", considering that's what i said in the secret. though i suspect in your head you did a little substitution instead :P

I think you just don't word things very well. It took me a few reads to think I understood your point in the secret, and I still don't understand what you're trying to say here. I thought your secret was that you're glad the people who said "You were stupid for liking Dany" are being silent because now people are seeing the truth, that the last season was badly written and it made sense for people who liked Dany to be upset by it. I think you also still aren't understanding that you can both like Dany and also think she was obviously going to turn worse, and still hate the way that turn was written.

I think you're just dogshit at reading comprehension wow. How did you get all of that from the secret? Please cite your sources.

Maybe your reading comprehension is the problem, because the secret is very clear.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-23 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
those comments quoted in your secret are dumb as shit. that said, i'm not a dany stan but i still think it would have made more sense for her character if dany had attacked cersei's castle directly but sloppily which would have lead to some innocent lives being lost (by misdirected flames and falling debris) with dany trying to justify it rather than have her directly attack civilians. it just made no sense from any standpoint to attack civilians and not cersei in her castle.

plus it would have given cersei an awesome death by fire. i was hoping for cersei to stand before the dragon expectantly awaiting her fiery end and denying dany the satisfaction of seeing fear in her eyes.

for context i never read the books and am basing my interpretation of dany's character based on what i saw in the show. i think it would have been more compelling if dany accidentally killed a few innocent people first and justified their deaths in her mind before going whole hog. that would have opened the door for a more believable descent into madness later on (if she had lived.)

whatever. i like my version.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-23 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
Your version makes a lot of sense, nonny.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-23 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
YES

(Anonymous) 2022-04-23 12:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my god I would have preferred this so much for both characters, because I loved Cersei too but I was so annoyed by how she lost her fire in the last season, where did the Queen Bitch who cowed to no one go??? So much was wrong with that last season, yeesh.

(Anonymous) 2022-05-21 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
Aww. I was just having a little fun! 😆

(Anonymous) 2022-04-24 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
I think Jaime is still the biggest waste of character development overall, but it was disappointing that Cersei and Dany, apparently bigger villains than the Night King, go out in such pathetic anticlimactic ways.

But the worst part was the fucking nepotism ending of Bran becoming the King because... he had the best story??!?!?!? And only letting his sister's territory have independence while the other territories just fall in line without complaint because Arya made some YASSSS girl boss threat to slit their throats.

The more I think about it... the madder I get so I'll just stop.
