Pretty sure I saw some of her videos right around the time the live action Mulan came out and they were interesting commentary on the make-up, etc. But I couldn't really get into her because she seems really smug. Gave her book a chance because it sounded pretty amazing (Giant robot battles? Smashing the patriarchy? Bring it on.) but... eh. I didn't hate it but I'd probably liked it more if my expectations hadn't been raised by the buzz and the whole "this is not like other YA novels because it's woker than woke" vibe.

Narrator voice: "This is like all the other YA novels, except the throuple is canon and the battles are surprisingly underwhelming."

Yeah. I was okay with the threesome but rolled my eyes a little bit when it became clear early on that's where the plot was going. But the lack of really awesome mecha battles was very disappointing. You promise giant robot battles, I'd like more of that and less dumb angst about romance.
