As someone who doesn't follow or know about this, can you expand more on the hypocritical purity culture?

Because I follow a lot of "character of the day" accounts, and this doesn't seem unusual. There are a fair amount of accounts like that for disabilities (some specific, some broad). It's nice to see a character that reflects me and people with different disabilities.

Not OP, but I think a lot of the annoyance maybe comes from the fact that a lot of these "___ of the day" accounts just sort of pull disabilities out of the aether and assign them to characters based on a couple of traits that don't even necessarily read as that disability.

It would be one thing if it was just "hey in my opinion this character reads as ___!", that's totally normal and good! Phrasing it as a fact feels alienating.

That or gender/sexuality. It's almost always an asspull and unintentionally comes off as mocking instead of "let's highlight actual minority characters". (In some cases it's absolutely intentional though, considering there are a ton of troll "xyz of the day" accounts by now.)

Oh, usually the twitter versions I see are confirmed characters, or it notes in the tweet if it's a headcanon submitted and things associated (like, for example, Herlock Sholmes from GAA for ADHD would include his intense focus on projects before immediately forgetting them when done) or twitter profiles will say they are mostly headcanons (I avoid those).

Or it's something obvious, like Fat Character of the Day, with rules that disallow certain things (like very fatphobic depictions)

Character A is a villain, can't be depicted as disabled! Book B has one hint of incest, can't depict any of its disabled character!! Series C has teenagers lusting after each other, ewwww underage!!!
