Well, they might in some places, but I haven't heard it used that way in well over a decade. I've been more likely to hear "bash" or "attack" or other similar things.

TBH to me "flaming" is a fairly specific thing & there just aren't that many places anymore where that very particular kind of vituperative attacking posting style is seen as an accepted, normal part of Internet discourse.

Not that conversations are necessarily less toxic; arguably more so, just in a different mode.
