it's also complicated if you only consider his present and future roles and not what he used to be in the past. he was THE Brat Pack actor back in the 80s, but a lot of people forget that.

then again, I don't mind if he's decided in his old age that he's just going to cash paychecks and spend his free time fostering kittens or whatnot. kind of like Ewan McGregor, who is an amazing actor but is happy cashing those fat Star Wars checks so he can go off promoting indie films or environmental causes or whatever he's into this week. there are some actors who don't feel the need to be groundbreaking in every single role and have a fulfilling life outside of acting and that's okay. frankly, more of that, please, so I don't have to hear about their scandalous lives all the damn time.

This. I still remember watching him in all kinds of things from Rules of Attraction to Ally McBeal, and it was so different from the typecasting he’s known for now. I don’t even really like either of those works, but I sure did watch them, and I thought he was pretty good in them. I also really love him in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which was actually made by the director of Iron Man 3, and I would highly recommend that film. And again, RDJ was playing a different type of character than the Tony Starks he would later play. His pre-Tony career was quite different, and should be separated from his post-Tony roles by anyone who doesn’t like his post-Tony typecasting.
