Rygel there was one of Farscape's more vanilla looking aliens too. Check out Season One's DNA Mad Scientist for some truly freaky shit.

My favorite Farscape character was Pilot though, another amazing animatronic character. Animatronics can blend the best of physical prop and voice acting, which is always best for giving the flesh and blood actors something to act off of.

I love Pilot so much, he is such an interesting character. And I always forget that he is basically a big puppet

You know why Pilot was so great, other than the vocal work, it was because they gave the puppet microexpressions. I caught a talk from one of the creatureshop engineers once, and they talked about how for puppets to be believable they needed to be given small barely noticeable microexpressions to act alongside the human actors. Apparently that is something Henson tried to give even the stiff foam puppets in some way (usually with the way the puppeteers moved it), and the more sophisticated the puppet, the more mini-movements they needed to build in. It was a whole damn art. Too many puppet props just don't bother with anything other than the macromovements.

This creatures all have emotions and it's engaging

Pilot is such a great character, and it really is amazing how easy it is to forget he's a puppet.

DNA Mad Scientist was responsible for causing an unsuspecting, 12-year-old me to discover I had a massive, massive body horror squick. Very good episode, though!

ALL the Pilot love! I adored Rigel (as awful as he was), but Pilot was...wonderful. If you've never had the pleasure of seeing 'Farscape Undressed' I highly recommend it - just to see Pilot, how big he is and how he is operated. You do truly forget that he is essentially a 'puppet', animatronics and operators not withstanding.
